Avoid “bearing down” as when lifting heavy objects, blowing up balloons, playing musical instruments that require a blowing action, or any other activity that increases nasal or oral pressure.
DO NOT, under any circumstances, BLOW YOUR NOSE until you have seen Dr. Allard for your post-operative visit. He will instruct you, at that time, if you need to continue to avoid nose blowing.
Try to avoid sneezing. If you must sneeze, open your mouth. Do not sneeze while holding your nose.
No smoking.
You may use a nasal saline spray such as “Ocean Spray” if you feel congested.
Do not be alarmed if you have a nosebleed. This may or may not happen. If it does occur, stop your activity, sit in a recliner, and apply an ice pack (10 minutes on and 10 minutes off) to the side of the nosebleed.
If you notice the unexpected flow of air or liquids between your mouth and nose, please let Dr. Allard know at your post-operative visit.
