How long does it take to straighten my teeth?

Close-up of a patient's teeth with a gap at Arrowhead Oral and Maxillofacial SurgeryTeeth straightening is an orthodontic treatment that focuses on shifting the teeth gradually, into their correct positions. It might be done using braces or traditional metal braces. Nowadays, there is the use of clear braces that are known as Invisalign. These braces correct bite issues and overcrowding, gaps, and spacing in the teeth. The time it takes to straighten your teeth depends on the individual condition. Therefore, this means there is no specific timeline needed to straighten your teeth. Some cases might take as many as 24 months others might take 6 months. Therefore, to understand the time it will take to straighten your teeth, you are advised to pay a visit for more information.

Teeth straightening process

If you are having an issue with the alignment of your teeth, here is what to expect during the process. First, you are to meet up with the prosthodontist to asses the current tooth alignment and eventually recommend the most favorable option. If the issue regards overcrowding, you might be required to visit an orthodontist before the alignment procedure is done. The braces or aligners are then custom-made to fit your specifications. After the braces are installed, you will need to make frequent follow-up appointments to ensure that your teeth are recovering as expected.

Expected treatment time

For adult patients, the treatment time might be extended, compared to children. This is because the adult jaw has completed the growth process and their teeth are set more permanently. Moreover, genetics also play a vital role in straightening treatment time. Meaning, the time taken to shift back into position might not be the same as someone else’s. We all are different, and our bodies respond differently to treatments. For most patients, the time taken with normal braces may be between 6 months and two years. This estimate is given by our orthodontist during the treatment. Visit us today for these and more services.
