How Long Can You Rely on Temporary Dental Implants Before the Real Ones Are Ready?

Dental Implants Arrowhead Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery AZ 85308-8370When you are considering having your teeth repaired or replaced, you want to have something that is permanent and looks great at the same time. In this situation, dental implants are a great way to go.

They do a great job restoring your smile, plus they help to keep your jawbone and your gums healthy. When you first get the implant posts placed, a temporary crown is put over the post. This is there to use while the post heals. Once the post is totally healed, a permanent crown is placed.

You Will Rely on a Temporary Crown During the Healing Process

The first stage of healing lasts approximately 6-8 weeks. During this time, you will have a temporary crown over the post. This way, you can speak, chew, and talk like normal as it heals. During this time, your temporary crown will help you perform these tasks. Once the jaw is totally healed, you will have the permanent crown put in.

This can take anywhere from the initial 6-8 weeks, or upwards of a year. It depends on when the post has fused with the jawbone. Each person will respond differently and heal at different rates. The temporary crown is designed to last this time so that you can feel and act like normal as your body heals.

Call on us if you want to find out more about dental implants or how the healing process works. We can have a consultation with you and discuss the benefits of turning to dental implants to help replace your missing teeth. The process is fairly simple, and the procedure is routine. Give us a call and we can walk you through what to expect should you decide this is the best route for you.
