Most people don't think about their gums unless there is a problem. Our gums are more essential to us what most people think. When they come under attack, this is when people will recognize how important they are. Due to many reasons, you might start seeing more of your teeth than you did before. That is often to mean that your gums are receding. This problem is quite common in adults since it affects 4 to 12 percent of the population. Often, because most people don't think as much about their gums, it will go unnoticed until the last minute. In a case where the gum recession is not handled in the correct time, you will end up losing teeth which will of cause cause its own share of problems. The best way to handle this is by using a gum tissue graft. There are three types of gum tissue grafts; all different and applied under certain conditions and the specific needs of the patient. They include: Connective Tissue GraftThis is one of the most common, yet effective ways of treating gum recession. This method is particularly useful in instances where there is root exposure as a result of the recession. Here, skin is cut from your palate and then joined to the sub epithelial connective tissue. Once it's done, the gum can now start to heal giving you your old smile back.Free Gingival GraftsIn cases where the patient has thin gums and need more tissue to enlarge gums, a free gingival graft is the most ideal option. Here, the tissue in use is from the roof of the mouth and is then attached to the problematic area to give it more density and strength. Some gum grafts are essential because someone wants to get a better smile and the one they have simply won't do. In other times, the graft is necessary because the exposed inner tooth can be damaged which will then cascade into a flurry of other problems. If you feel like your gums are slowly receding, please visit us as soon as possible. We will look at the situation and advise the best way going forward. |
