Come In to See Us if You Were In a Recent Car Accident
A car accident is a traumatic experience. You worry that you or someone in your car is hurt. You hope that no one else involved in the accident is hurt. Even if no one is hurt, you worry about what the accident will cost you financially and how you will get by without your car. You may worry so much about the other things that you don't realize that you actually did hurt yourself even if you don't feel pain right away. There are some ways a car accident can affect you physically that you are not always aware of. Our office can help make sure you are truly okay physically after you are involved in a car accident.

What Happens During an Accident?

When people think about the trauma that a car accident can occur, they think about the obvious signs of a problem. They look for broken bones and blood. They do not always realize the violent forces that happen during an accident. The force of an accident can cause your body to move rapidly in one or more directions. IT is this type of movement that can cause damage that we can help with.

Possible Oral Health Issues

The most common part of the body that gets whipped around during an accident is the head and neck. While many people have heard of the term whiplash, that is not the only place on the head that could get hurt. One common problem that people run into after an accident is Temporomandibular joint disorder.
This condition affects the joint that connects the jaw to the skull. The forces of the accident can throw this joint out of place. TMJ can result in problems that include pain in the jaw, difficulty opening and closing the mouth, difficult talking clearly and other issues.
It may take some time for the symptoms of a problem related to a car accident to show up. The earlier you recognize the problems, the sooner you can get treatment. That is why we recommend that anyone who has been in a car accident, come in to our office for a checkup.
For more information about this or any other oral health issue, contact our office to schedule an appointment.
