The Osseointegration Process
This phase marks a time frame during which the implant fuses into the bone through a process known as osseointegration. This initiates once the implant is securely held in the bone and may take up to 6 months. Once appropriately completed, it is this phase that will allow the implant to function like a natural tooth in terms of stability. Click to read more about Osseointegration.
Final Restoration
Once the implant is osseointegrated, Dr. Allard will then recommend the implant be restored by the restoring practitioner. This restoration will include an abutment and a crown. The abutment serves as a connector between titanium implant and crown, allowing the crown to appear as if it is naturally emerging/erupting from the gum line. The restored crown is custom designed to match the desired shape, shade and size of the space and surrounding teeth. As the restoration is custom designed to the aesthetic demands of the site, the restoration blends seamlessly with the patients bite and smile.
Implants Help Preserve Bone in the Jaw
Traditional methods of teeth replacement pose long term risks of complications, whereas implants promote overall oral and jaw health. The presence of natural teeth or implants helps to preserve the jaw bone. An extracted or lost/missing tooth can cause the bone to weaken or erode. Once the implant is successfully healed and integrated into the surrounding bone, it serves to provide stability and assists in maintaining jaw health—exactly as natural teeth do.
