Woman getting Botox at Arrowhead Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Glendale, AZThere is no other medical professional who understands your face more than a maxillofacial surgeon, also known as an oral surgeon. Many patients don't think to ask oral surgeons about treatments such as Botox® and other dermal fillers like Juvéderm® or Restylane® but we understand your facial muscles, how they move, and their function, more than other professionals. Our team at Arrowhead Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery can help you have a more youthful facial appearance, fill lines, decrease facial pain and relax muscles through this simple injection procedure.

We See More Than Skin

An aesthetician, dermatologist or plastic surgeon may look at your skin and be able to make recommendations based on the surface. When an oral surgeon looks, we consider the proper ratios with your entire facial structure, including the ratio of lips to teeth, the shape of the smile, your ability for proper speech and chewing, how the lips shape around your teeth and more. Being able to look at the bigger picture means better treatment for you.

Botox® is used to relax muscles and smooth areas of your face. This will reduce wrinkles and lines. We can then use dermal fillers such as Juvéderm® or Restylane® to hydrate the skin, helping you look fuller with healthier skin, giving you a more youthful appearance. Botox® is considered the fountain of youth.

Botox® treatment is known for immediately visible changes to the look of your skin, but there are medical benefits that also come. Oral surgeons have used Botox® to ease facial pain and discomfort. Patients have found treatment to help with migraine headaches, to relieve tension in their jaw joints, eyebrows and more, to reduce excessive facial sweating, for the treatment of bruxism and even for the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) stress.

Can Botox® Help With Teeth Grinding?

Yes! Grinding or clenching your teeth, known as bruxism, is a condition that is generally associated with stress. It is a condition that the patient does unconsciously while they sleep. Bruxism is often a temporary condition, but much damage can occur during that small period. If you are waking with headaches, a sore jaw, or if there is visible damage, Botox® injections can help decrease the tension in your jaw, relaxing the muscles, and saving you time and money.

Can Botox® Help With TMD Pain?

Yes! TMD pain is a term used in dentistry that is applied to facial pain. It generally means that something is out of alignment. Relaxing the muscles with Botox® can reduce inflammation and then lessen or even alleviate pain.

What's the Process?

•  The process begins with a quick review of your medical history, we want to ensure that you're a candidate for treatment.
•  Before treatment, we will explain the risks, as well as what you can expect.
•  Botox® treatment generally takes about 10 to 15 minutes, each injection only takes a few seconds. The discomfort of injections is brief and minimal.
•  Botox® results will begin to take effect immediately, and will continue to increase over the next several days. Botox® should stay active in your system for three to four months before retreatment is needed.
